In this week's Dental Handoff, Dr. Kelly welcomes in Dr. Nanette Tertel!
Dr. Nanette Tertel is a general dentist in Toledo, Ohio. As a private practice dentist, Nanette has also been involved in dental education at many levels. After graduating in 1988, Nan remained at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry as a clinical instructor in the Department of Prosthodontics for five years, while also in her general private practice. Involvement in organized dentistry led to a pathway of volunteerism in planning and executing continuing education for the Toledo Dental Society, the Ohio Dental Association Committee on Annual Sessions, and the American Dental Association Committee of Annual Meetings.
Nan has served as general chair for Ohio Dental Association Annual Session, American Dental Association Annual Meeting, and is currently serving as the Chair of Learning Experience, ADA SmileCon, Orlando 2023.
Dr. Terlet shares insights from her decades of experience in dentistry, as well as what she has learned from hitting the speaking circuit and how she was able to overcome stage fright. It seems like it was just yesterday, but I'm already getting excited for the next SmileCon with Nanette at the helm!

Brett Sealove, MD, FACC, RPVI, CPE is an attending level physician who is double-boarded in Cardiology as well as Vascular Medicine. He is a Cardiologist/Partner at Monmouth Cardiology Associates and Chief of Cardiology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.Dr. Sealove is currently the medical director of the non-invasive vascular lab at Monmouth Cardiology and is the former Medical Director/Chair of Wellness and Prevention at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and the former Associate Program Director for the Cardiology Fellowship. His subspecialty within cardiology is in vascular medicine/imaging and preventative and clinical cardiology. Dr. Sealove's areas of interest also include cardiovascular imaging and preventive cardiology. Timothy Donley DDS MSD is currently in the private practice of Periodontics and Implantology in Bowling Green, KY. His education included the University of Notre Dame, Georgetown University School of Dentistry, and Indiana University for his specialty training.
He lectures and publishes frequently on topics of interest to clinical dentists and hygienists. He co-authored the first-ever textbook on debridement and is active in oral-systemic research. Dr. Donley feels strongly that it is finally time for dentistry to occupy its rightful place on the health care stage.
For at least the last 15 years his practice has focused on getting his patients inflammation-free then doing whatever is necessary to keep them that way over their lifespan. His is currently focused on introducing all dental stakeholders to the new wellness narrative of dentistry through which better patient outcomes, better practice performance and better personal satisfaction are possible.

In 2020, Angela was recognized as the Advocate of the Year for Omaha Dental Hygienists’ Association, as well as the Nebraska Dental Hygienists’ Association. Throughout her career, Angela has been involved in private practice and educational aspects in dentistry. Dr. Sam Shamardi earned his DMD at Tufts University and his Periodontal certificate at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Surgery and practices full-time while teaching part-time at the Harvard Division of Periodontics.
Dr. Shamardi lectures nationally and internationally on topics within periodontics, hearing loss in dentistry, finance and more, and has published multiple articles. He is a member of the prestigious Catapult Education Speakers Bureau and is recognized as a dental entrepreneur for his revolutionary EarAid product. He is also the author of The Financial Survival Guide for Dentists, a book geared towards helping early career dental professionals establish a foundation in the business aspect of their careers. In his spare time enjoys traveling and supporting his favorite team Real Madrid.

Victoria began her journey as a Dental Therapist at the Eastman Dental Hospital London in 2001, and has been totally dedicated to her profession since and completed her BSc in Oral Health Promotion with O’Hehir University in 2016, and has worked internationally as a speaker and clinically in the UK and UAE and currently teaches the NEBDN Certificate in Oral Health Education for dental nurses.
She is the Founder and former President of the Emirates Dental Hygienist Club and has been active within various organizations throughout her career. She currently is a board member for Teeth Cloud, a global dental informatics organization, and is a member of the Editorial Board for the BSDHT.
Victoria’s particular area of interest focusses on behavioural change and communication, and ways of promoting oral health through multiple channels, underpinned by consistent well-being. Victoria’s current funded research award, was reviewed by the Oral Health Research Trust (OHRT) a partner of NIHR, explores the impact of tele-health on oral health improvements.

Dr. Maragliano-Muniz was a dental hygienist before earning her DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and her certificate in Advanced Prosthodontics from UCLA School of Dentistry. She is a board-certified prosthodontist, the Chief Editor for Dental Economics. In addition, she is a Chief Development Officer for Cellerant Consulting Group, a faculty member at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and maintains a private practice in Salem, MA.
She lectures internationally and is extensively published. Her passion for prevention has stayed with her throughout her career and in 2010, Dr. Maragliano-Muniz was awarded the 2010 Adult Preventive Care Practice of the Year by the American Dental Association.

After selling her practice, she became the Dental Director of a Federally Qualified Health Center where she provided high quality care to underserved populations. She has since joined the American Dental Association’s Business Innovation Group as the ADA Advisor to provide real and tangible benefits to dentists as well as helping to address access to care issues across the country. She is currently VP of Operations and Customer Relations for ADA Practice Transitions.
