Episode 109 | The Impact Of A Beautiful Smile On Self-Esteem And Confidence with Dr. Thomas Dudney

In this week's Dental Handoff, Dr. Kelly Tanner makes the dental handoff to Dr. Thomas Dudney!
Thomas E. Dudney, DMD is a 1977 graduate of University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Dentistry. He has served in the past as the Clinical Director for the Aesthetic Advantage hands-on programs taught by Dr. Larry Rosenthal at New York University and the Eastman Dental Clinic in London. Presently he is the clinical director of the Pacific Aesthetic Continuum (PAC) hands-on programs. In addition to teaching hands-on programs, he has presented workshops and lectures at dental meetings and has authored several articles on aesthetic and restorative dentistry.
Dr. Dudney is a member of the American Dental Association, the Alabama Dental Association, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is also a fellow of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics and a Diplomate of the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry as well as a member of Catapult Speakers Bureau.
In todays' conversation, Dr. Dudney joins the show to elaborate on why a beautiful smile has a massive impact on self-esteem and confidence, making the role of the dentist much greater than one of mere cosmetic improvement.

Episode 108 | Debunking Myths About Fluoride And Its Effects On Oral Health with Dr. Mark Latta

In this week's Dental Handoff, Dr. Kelly Tanner makes the dental handoff to Dr. Mark Latta! Dr. Latta joins the show to debunk myths about fluoride and its effects on oral health. 
Mark A. Latta, DMD, M.S., is Dean Emeritus and Professor of General Dentistry at the Creighton University School of Dentistry.  He served as dean of the School from 2011 to 2021. He continues to contribute as an individual teacher/scholar with his own research and teaching and by collaborating internationally in research and teaching. Prior to being appointed dean, he served as the associate dean for research at Creighton from 1995-2011.
He is a graduate of Lafayette College, Easton PA (BA Chemistry), University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Philadelphia PA (DMD), York Hospital York, PA (General Practice Residency) and University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, Baltimore MD (MS, Oral Biology).
Following 4 years in private dental practice Dr. Latta joined the Laboratory Products Division of Dentsply International-now Dentsply/Sirona. He served numerous roles in Research and Development for the company ultimately serving as the Director of R&D. During his industrial career, he contributed to or was responsible for more than 20 new dental product introductions.  
He has been awarded more than 120 research grants investigating prosthetic materials, dental restorative materials, dental adhesives and cements. He has led numerous clinical trials of dental materials. He is a speaker and lecturer of international renown and has published more than 130 manuscripts and 200 abstracts and has presented at numerous state, national and international dental association meetings throughout the world. Dr. Latta, is a fellow in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, and a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national honorary dental society. He was awarded Faculty of Dentistry status in the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in. 2022.  
Dr. Latta has also served as president of the Dental Materials Group of the International Association for Dental Research.

Episode 107 | The Continuous Learning Curve In The Field of Dentistry with Dr. Tanya Maestas

Dr. Tanya Sue Maestas was born and raised in El Paso, TX. She attended dental school at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. She graduated in 2018 and completed an AEGD residency in 2019. During dental school, she became involved in organized dentistry and served in various leadership roles including President of the American Student Dental Association.
After graduating, she returned to El Paso and practices outside of the city at La Clinica de Familia (FQHC) where she serves as a Dental Director for the site. She also serves as a part-time faculty member at the Woody L Hunt School of Dental Medicine. She was recently named the Texas New Dentist of the Year. She has continued her involvement in organized dentistry by serving in numerous roles with organizations including the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Hispanic Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Texas Academy of General Dentistry, and the El Paso District Dental Society. She is an alumnus of the American Dental Association Institute for Diversity in Leadership and was recognized as one of the American Dental Association 10 under 10 recipients & one of Incisal Edge 40 under 40 dentists.
Dr. Maestas is passionate in providing care to underserved communities and seeks to help close the gap in barriers to care. She strives to promote diversity within dentistry and seek to ensure inclusion at all levels of the profession, and she dives into all of these areas with Dr. Kelly in this week's episode!

Dr. Hornbrook graduated from the UCLA School of Dentistry and maintains a private practice is San Diego, California, focused on Adult restorative and functional aesthetic dentistry. He has been a pioneer in live-patient aesthetic education and is the past founder and director of LVI, PAC~Live, the HornbrookGroup, and Clinical Mastery. He has been a guest faculty member of the aesthetic programs at SUNY Buffalo, AT Still, UOP, Case Western, Baylor, UT Houston, Roseman, and UCLA.
He has been published in all the leading dental journals and has lectured extensively nationally and internationally on dental materials, dentinal adhesion, occlusion, implant aesthetics, dentalphotography, smile design, laboratory-doctor communication.
Dr. Hornbrook has actively been involved with the Crown Council and developed the Young Dentist program where he personally mentors recent dental school graduates through a program he hasentitled “Change a Smile, Change a Life” where he, along with Utah Valley Dental Lab, donates his time to provide a life-changing smile to someone of need, while educating these new members of our profession on smile design principles and treatment planning using state-of-the-art techniques and materials.
As an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, he has received both his Accreditation and Fellowship Status., as well as being one of 25 clinicians in the world to achieve Diplomat Status in the American Society of Dental Aesthetics.
He is the Clinical Director of Education at Utah Valley Dental Lab, and currently teaches with Dr. Mark Montgomery in both Aesthetic and Functional Occlusion Courses. In his private time, he enjoys surfing, off-road motorcycles, snowboarding and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Episode 97 | The Dental Handoff To Dr. Adamo Notarantonio

In this week's Dental Handoff, Dr. Kelly Tanner welcomes in the great Dr. Adamo Notarantonio!
Dr. Adamo Notarantonio is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine (2002), where he received honors in both removable and fixed prosthodontics.  He completed his residency in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program at Stony Brook in 2003, and was chosen by faculty to complete a second year as Chief Resident.
Dr. Adamo was accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (“AACD”) in 2011, and recently received his Fellowship in the AACD. He is the only Accredited Fellow in New York State, and the 80th person worldwide to achieve this honor. He was further honored by the Academy when asked to serve as President of the AACD, and also consultant and examiner for the Accreditation and Fellowship processes.
Dr. Adamo is a graduate of the Kois Center, where he studied under Dr. John Kois. He also has completed The Dawson Academy Core Curriculum. Dr. Adamo has received his fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He has been published in multiple dental journals and lectures nationally and internationally on such topics as CAD/CAM dentistry, implant dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, composite dentistry and dental photography.
Dr. Adamo also volunteers his time at the NYU College of Dentistry where he is a Clinical Instructor in the Honors Aesthetics Program.In July, Dr Adamo was invited to join the faculty at the prestigious Kois Center in Seattle, Washington. It is a high honor, as he is only the 6th faculty member to be selected since the Center opened in 1994. As a result, he will be in Seattle for numerous weeks in 2024.
Dr. Adamo is an avid golfer and is also fluent in Italian.
